Terms and Conditions for The UX Conference and UX Certification Program
By registering to attend the UX Conference, you agree to the following:
Payment Policy
Your registration is not complete until full payment is received. If your company requires an invoice, please use either the printable invoice or the email confirmation you will receive following online registration. Both will include the dates, the events you have registered for, and the conference fee. The registration fee does not include your hotel or travel expenses. If you choose to participate in UX Certification, you will need to pay UX Certification exam fees in addition to your course tuition. Exams can be paid at the time you register, or later after you have attended the UX Conference.
Cancellation, Substitution, and Refund Policy
If you must cancel after registering, you must provide written notice to the event organizer listed on the Conference page. If your cancellation notice is received by the refund deadline stated on the Conference page, a 20% handling fee will be retained and the remaining 80% of the amount paid will be refunded. No refunds will be granted after the refund deadline stated on the Conference page, but we will accept a substitute attendee if we receive a written request from the registered attendee at least 3 days prior to the start of the event, stating his or her intention to transfer registration to a named individual.
Speaker Substitutions and Course Cancellations
If we are prevented from carrying out a virtual course or event due to a technical, software, or platform issue, we reserve the right to modify, postpone/reschedule, or cancel the course for any reason. If there is a course or event cancellation, every attempt will be made to reschedule, and registration fees will be applied to the rescheduled course or event date. We reserve the right to substitute speakers, cancel seminars, or cancel the entire event. In such cases, our liability is limited to refunding the registration fees and UX Certification exam fees you have paid for the affected days. Speakers may need to be substituted in case of illness, accidents, airline problems, or other issues that prevent a scheduled speaker from presenting as planned. We will endeavor to get a substitute speaker, but this may not always be possible because of the expertise required and the short notice available in most such cases.
Access Requirements
If you have any special access requirements (such as wheelchair access), please notify us when you register so we can accommodate you at the event.
Photography and Quotes
You grant us the right to use any photography taken at the conference for the marketing of future events.
No Audio or Video Recording
Use of any audio or video recording equipment at the UX Conference is prohibited.

UX Certification Program Terms and Conditions
By taking UX Certification exams, you further agree to the following terms and conditions:
Privacy
Exam Scores
To protect your privacy, we do not share your exam scores with anyone but you. Your exam scores are emailed to you and are available on your profile when you log in to our website. We recommend that you do not share your NN/g account password with anyone. NN/g employees and event staff have access to exam information, including your scores, for the purpose of assisting you with any technical problems or questions about your UX Certification credit, and tracking exam performance and improving exams.
Public Recognition
Nielsen Norman Group maintains a public list of people who have achieved UX Certification at https://www.nngroup.com/ux-certification/verify/. This list includes each individual's name, country, and any Specialty recognition earned. You can update your name and country, or opt out of appearing in this list, by logging in to your profile at https://nngroup.com/login/, or by contacting us at [email protected].
Data Retention
We retain records of your training attendance and exams in order to track your credits, award UX Certificates and Specialty Recognition, and validate your achievements. This information is retained indefinitely unless you request that we delete it. If you would like to delete your records please contact us at [email protected].
Nielsen Norman Group’s Privacy Policy provides further details about our data handling procedures.
Taking Exams
Exam Fee Payment Policy
UX Certification Exam fees which are paid at the time of registration for the UX Conference are subject to the same refund policies as conference tuition. Exam fees paid after attending a course are non-refundable.
Exam Deadlines
In order to receive UX Certification credit for a class, you must pass the exam prior to the exam deadline stated on your profile. After each class, we send an email to the address you have provided, notifying you of the deadline for completing the exam for that class. We will also send you a reminder before the exam deadline. We recommend that you take your exams without delay. If, due to illness or scheduling conflicts, you are unable to take your exams prior to the deadline, you will have the option to extend your deadlines to 30 calendar days after the original deadline, by paying an extension fee. Only one extension is allowed. You will not be able to take your exams or receive UX Certification credit after the deadline (or after the extended deadline, if you take advantage of the extension option.)
Exam Attempts
Each exam may be attempted up to 3 times. After the third attempt, no more attempts at that exam are allowed. It is not possible to pay another exam fee and purchase more attempts at the same exam. If you attend a class but do not pass the exam after 3 attempts, you will not receive credit for that class. You may choose to attend the class again at a future location. After attending the class again, you will receive a new exam for that class and will be allowed 3 attempts to pass that new exam andearn credit for that class.
Exam Honor Code
NN/g UX Certification exams are created by NN/g course instructors to test the knowledge of topics covered in the class, and how well participants can apply that knowledge. To ensure the exam is fair and allows everyone the same chance at passing, all program participants are required to follow the exam Honor Code:
- Complete exams without assistance from any other person
- While taking the exam, refer only to your own class notes and materials distributed in the class, or through the Nielsen Norman Group website
- Do not save, copy, or photograph any of the exam questions or answer choices
- Do not share any of the exam questions or answer choices with anyone in any way
- Do not help anyone else answer exam questions
Exam Answers
We do not release answers to exam questions or answers to anyone, even after they have completed the exam. We recognize that this information would be helpful to those who would like to learn more about the topics on the exam. However we must maintain a fair and accurate assessment tool for everyone, which makes it necessary to limit the distribution of exam content as much as possible.
Course Credit
Certificate Credit Requirements
Participants in the UX Certification Program can earn one course credit by attending a full-day NN/g training course, signing in to the course in the morning, attending the full day of the class, and passing the online exam after the class. 5 course credits are required to earn the UX Certificate, and 15 course credits are required to earn the UX Master Certificate.
Specialty Credit
Courses which contribute credit towards the UX Certificate or UX Master Certificate may also be eligible to contribute credit towards a Specialty. Specialties are optional enhancements to the UX Certificate. The requirements for achieving a Specialty are described in detail on the https://www.nngroup.com/ux-certification/specialties/.
Repeating Courses
Each class is eligible to receive one credit towards a UX Certificate. Participants who have already attended a class, passed the exam, and received a credit for that class cannot earn another credit by taking the same class again.
Credit for Multi-Day Courses
Any course which is described as a multiple day course has a separate exam for each day of the class. Each day can receive a separate credit towards the UX Certificate. For example, if a course has 3 days, then by attending all 3 days, and passing all 3 exams, participants in this course may earn up to 3 credits towards the UX Certificate.
Credit for Courses Attended in the Past
In order to receive UX Certification credit for a class, participants must pass the exam prior to the deadline. Participants who attended a class in the past but did not pass the exam prior to the deadline will not receive credit for that class.
