Tanner Kohler
User Experience SpecialistTanner Kohler is a User Experience Specialist with Nielsen Norman Group. Tanner's studies have focused on social psychology. He has researched theories of human motivation and learning and applied them to settings such as disaster preparedness, sustainability, and firefighter training. He also developed, taught, and evaluated curricula for thousands of full-time volunteers for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; additionally, he worked on assessing and improving service design for the same organization.
Tanner has conducted research on the gamification of learning — specifically, on why people behave differently in gamified environments. He has also written about various player types that emerge as individuals participate in gamified experiences.
Tanner holds a BS degree in Psychology with minors in business and design thinking and is currently completing a master's degree in instructional psychology and technology. He is conversational in both Russian and German. Tanner is currently located in Provo, Utah.
