It should be no surprise that a company with such a rich history of innovation, including the creation of the original Post-It Note, could also conquer the challenge of creating a truly global intranet. The 3M case study humbly reminds us that even a complicated organization can deftly design an attractive and easy-to-use intranet that entices its users to keep coming back for more.
Anthem, Inc.
A remarkable HR section, an “access to everything” dashboard, hearty employee profiles, and a comprehensive homepage help Anthem employees be highly productive and feel in control. Experiencing the peaceful visual color palette in the design is just one more benefit of using Pulse.
BHP Billiton Limited (BHP)
The BHP intranet offers impressive search features, strong support for collaboration across time zones, and rich news and applications. These features and many more help BHP employees rise to any occasion and shine.
Duke Energy
Thoughtful web parts and a thorough guide to their use are just two of the above-and-beyond elements that make The Portal a consistent, brand-supporting, and easy-to-use site. This portal does far more than simply promise links to content: It exceeds expectations and quickly and concisely delivers more information than users typically expect.
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)
The themes of this redesign are freedom and flexibility. Stepping as far away as possible from the previous intranet’s design (which was old and rigid), the new EBRD intranet allows users to customize the homepage and apps list (among other things) and lets all employees write and be responsible for the intranet’s highly diverse content.
Flight Centre Travel Group
Content accuracy and assembling everything employees need in one place are features emphasized in this pleasing design. PILOT pulls together a wealth of information, tools, and applications in a way that lifts Flight Centre employees to their full productivity potential.
The International Business Machines Corporation (IBM)
The subtle, terse-texted, nearly graphic-free design of IBM’s Bluemine platform happily takes the backseat to the far more important market-intelligence reports, which are the site’s true focus. A robust search, a select few pieces of promoted content, a customizable bookmarks page, and extensive help tools make it possible to find an entire world of priceless competitive research in just moments.
Lamprell Energy Limited
Set goals, measure, and be transparent about it. These are the qualities of great businesses that students learn about in business school—and exactly the kind of information that LamprellConnect shares. Key charts and statistics support employees and teams in understanding what they should be doing, how they are doing, and whether they need to recalibrate.
Messer Construction Co.
This site caters meticulously to its two general user types: the business and the skilled trade. MyMesser is rich with features and content; its most compelling areas include safety information, jobsite checklists and cameras, department and regional sections, news, and thorough process flows.
Norwegian Government Security and Service Organization (Departementenes sikkerhets- og serviceorganisasjon (DSS))
What a pleasure to experience the outstanding and innovative personalization and search functions ministering to ministry employees. The common design platform across multiple government intranets and the content-sharing feature are other notable elements that inspired us to vote a resounding “ja!” for this design.
